Ikodass Past Event

The week-long Ikorodu Oga Day celebration ended on a glamorous note on Saturday, 17th November, 2018 as indigenes, residents and tourists stormed the Ayangbure palace pavilion to witness the climax of the week-long event.

A major high point of the event was the conferment of the IKODASS Merit Award, Ikorodu community’s highest honour on any indigene on one of its illustrious sons and governorship candidate of the Alliance for Democracy in the forthcoming 2019 general elections.

Speaking at the event, Chief Salis commended IKODASS for conferring the highest community honour on him, promising to continue tocontinue his selfless service to the community. The AD candidate also pledged to remain a worthy ambassador of Ikorodu.

Justifying the reason behind the choice of Chief Salis for the award, IKODASS Chairman, Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru stressed that Chief Salis philanthropist activities and selfless community development projects to Ikorodu community earned him the award.

‘The Merit Awardee of today has not only been giving people of this community and even the state generally fish, but also teaching them how to fish. He has singularly trained and skilled several hundreds of  people in this community, thereby making some of them employers of labour’ he said.

Abiru added that Chief Salis ‘has always identified with projects and programmes of IKODASS  and is always ready to bring smiles  to the faces of the people of Ikorodu. He is a man who gives hope to the hopeless  and succor to the despaired. It is therefore in recognition of his noble and laudable contributions to the socio-economic development of this community that the High Chief Owolabi Salis Fakunmoju- Asiaju of Omo Yoruba in the USA is the Merit Awardee of this year’, he submitted.

Two prominent fathers of Ikorodu community, in persons of Late Chief L.A.D Olowosago and Alhaji Sanni Arowolo (Sango Well-Well) were honoured with post-humous recognitions for their exploits in business and politics respectively.
