Brook Stone Nursery and Primary School, located around Agric-Owutu in Ikorodu has emerged the overall best school at the just concluded IKODASS-Ella Nan Spelling Bee / Schools Got Talents Competition held on Wednesday 22nd October, 2019.
Mavi-Gold Nursery and Primary School and Etunrenren Primary School have also emerged the first and second runners up in the keenly contested Spelling Bee competition respectively.
The competition which featured over 50 private and public nursery, primary and secondary schools in Ikorodu was full of fun entertainment and display of talents among school children. Special presentations cut across Ewi rendition, choreography, dancing competition, poem recitation among other fun-filled activities.
Addressing the students, Princess Folashade Oba, Mother-of-the-Day at the competition commended Aunty Fowoke and IKODASS for organizing such an impactful programme for the benefits of the young ones. She also charged the participating students never to settle for less.
‘Irrespective of who eventually win this competition, I want to let you know that you are all winners and you must always see yourself as such. I left an important programme in Lagos to be with you here today as a way of identifying with you because you are so special to me’, she said.
Speaking earlier, Mrs Fowoke Adekoya, host of the competition noted that the programme was borne out of her desire to encourage talent development among school children, through talent discovery, promotion and reward for outstanding performance.
Meanwhile, IKODASS Deputy Chairman, Alh. Kolawole Fatai who also doubles as the Chairman of the occasion advised in a chat with Ikorodu Oga Radio has advised parents to always encourage their children and wards to participate in programmes like the Spelling Bee and Schools Got Talents. He noted that with the array of educational and fun-filled activities displayed by participating schools at the competition, there was no way the students will not go back home with new information.
He added that programmes like this exposes the children beyond the four walls of their schools while also offering them the opportunity to network with students from other schools.
